Finalists in the Innovation in Products & Services category of the BIFM Awards 2018 are:
The UK’s largest man & van bulky waste collection company, AnyJunk is using technology to reinvent rubbish clearance. We partner with a network of local waste removal companies all over the UK that undertake collections on our behalf. Our digital platform matches jobs to the nearest collection crew with spare capacity and connects to them via an App as they undertake the work, so we can provide clients with DPD style comms and an end to end waste audit trail for every collection. By minimising miles per collection and leveraging underutilised local capacity, this tech-enabled approach means we are able to achieve unrivalled response speeds and reliability at very competitive rates.

Working together partners have been able to make more efficient use of their time and resources, allowing them to spend their time evaluating innovations that will make the most difference. They have lowered their costs and risks for adopting innovation by benefiting from collective experience across industries. Together they have gained wider recognition for their own efforts, and established a joint leadership position at the forefront of building sustainability and supporting innovation.
Array Load Balancing for electric vehicle charging, Pod Point
Electric vehicle (EV) charging provider Pod Point has created a range of ‘futureproof’ products and services solutions, which are designed to be scalable and can be upgraded as required.
The company offers an end-to-end, in-house delivery experience, including a site survey and consultation, installation and maintenance and the provision of market insight, including local EV adoption rate assessment.
Pod Point’s latest hardware development, its Array Load Balancing solution, solves one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption – the availability of power. Until now commercial, industrial and residential locations with minimal power capacity have struggled to install charging without a requirement to upgrade their supply with the aid of their local DNO. Array Load Balancing draws the maximum amount of power and distributes it equally across each chargepoint, ensuring the chargers never exceed the available capacity.
Additional key benefits of Array include:
Up to three times more chargepoints can be installed using the same power availability
A reduction in cabling costs and install complexity that typically reduces installation costs by 50%
The removal of the need for surveys to install future charge points, which reduces cost and delivery timescales and creates a standard pricing structure for each bay.
From the Lead Judge, Mark Griffiths
“It’s an exciting time for FM, and we have seen this reflected in entries for the Innovation awards in recent years; technology is enabling our sector to take a leap forward in terms of the development of new products, and we’re expecting to see some great new developments here. As technology speeds up, and smooths out the basic functions and transactions, space opens up for people-focused services to go to the next level.
We’re hoping to see new ideas from FM service providers, suppliers or customer teams that are genuinely innovative and add value by improving service, reducing cost, or in other ways. Entering this award is a great way to showcase your brilliant fresh ideas to the rest of the profession!”
