The winner of the Leader of the Year Award will be an outstanding, immediately recognised business and people leader in the FM profession.
Evidence of delivering cutting edge, dynamic solutions delivered by successful, valued and inspired teams is essential. The winner is already a recognised ambassador for the FM profession: notable career successes will be acknowledged by peers, as will support and commitment to the wider FM profession. This individual is already making a significant positive impact upon the whole profession and is a respected, valued leader and champion.

“The Leader of the Year category was new for 2016. This Award provides the opportunity to recognise an individual as an outstanding inspirational leader in our profession. One who can demonstrate clear evidence of: leading people, substantive organisational change, inspiring others, managing relationships and building trust, together with valued and demonstrable achievements supporting the facilities management profession.
Applications are welcomed from individuals, directly or by nomination. They will be highly respected, active professionals, responsible for leading people and developing tangible strategies, tactics, actions and controls directly linked to business objectives for the ever increasing demands of facilities management services. The successful individual must be immediately recognised by their valued endeavours, ongoing enterprises and overall bearing throughout the profession. They will already be demonstrating their abilities to inspire and energise their people, clients and the FM profession on a public platform.“
Judges will be looking for evidence of outstanding leadership qualities, including the drive for success, commitment and knowledge of the industry, combined with outstanding examples of business success. We seek entries either from individuals who believe they meet these criteria or who are nominated accordingly.
Candidate industry exposure and experience should reflect across a broad range of achievements in overall FM and business.
The candidates will be:
> Immediately recognised figures in the industry or within business.
> Respected opinion leaders who understand the significant opportunities available to a developing profession, including the challenges, and have a track record of delivering against them.
> A recognised exponent of original thinking.
Professionals from all related organisations are invited to apply. These overtly acknowledged leaders in FM will have demonstrable experience at a strategic senior level, providing inspirational leadership for FM functions, FM businesses or respected opinion formers.
The following must be demonstrated in the submission:
> Quality of the formal submission, including the viability and strength of references, business and third party support, plus all additional information offered.
> Career experience, professional recognition to date, performance successes and achievements, including evidence of strategic development, inspiring and developing others and leading substantive change programmes resulting in clear organisational improvement.
> Organisational impact within the candidate’s organisation and the FM profession, demonstrating their influence and direction of FM within the business and across the profession.
> Overall impact in the FM industry, including public profile, thought leadership and support for the industry and the people involved.
> Impact on the Judges – this will depend upon the overall quality of the submission and the performance of the candidates in their presentation/interview before a panel of judges.
Submissions should include:
> A brief career resume, key achievements and innovations, together with notable information.
> Letter(s) of support from the employing organisation and third parties, in particular those who have benefitted or are able to support specific, outstanding achievements.
> A statement from the candidate on the key challenges and opportunities facing the FM profession and how they anticipate driving their ideas forward for the future.
> You may also wish to include original articles or links to papers or publications together with details of lectures and speaking events.
The written submission for this category is worth 25% of the overall score. The presentation round is worth 75%.
